About Us
Dedicated to preserving the soul of New Orleans through music education and mentorship.
Empowering Through Music
Our mission is to empower aspiring musicians, nurture creativity, and foster a deep appreciation for the unique and diverse musical traditions that define the cultural tapestry of New Orleans.
Musicians and Mentors Inc. was founded with a deep passion for music and a vision to share that passion with the next generation. Based in the heart of New Orleans — the birthplace of jazz — we understand the profound importance of preserving and passing down our musical heritage.
Under the leadership of founder Edwin Harrison Jr., who brings over 40 years of music education experience, our organization provides free music instruction, mentorship, and community performance opportunities to students of all ages and backgrounds.
A Legacy of Music and Mentorship
From humble beginnings to a community institution, our journey has always been about the music.
New Orleans has always been a city that breathes music. From the brass bands of Tremé to the jazz clubs of Frenchmen Street, music is woven into the very fabric of this city. Musicians and Mentors Inc. was born from a desire to ensure that this legacy endures.
Founded by Edwin Harrison Jr., a lifelong musician and educator with over four decades of experience, the organization started with a simple idea: provide free, high-quality music education to young people in the community. What began as informal piano lessons grew into a comprehensive program offering instruction in piano, vocals, brass, and more.
Today, Musicians and Mentors Inc. serves students of all ages, offering not just musical training but mentorship, life skills, and a deeper connection to the cultural heritage of New Orleans. Our community-centered approach ensures that every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
